Daniel Rood

Dan Rood is Associate Professor of History and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Georgia. He specializes in the history of Atlantic slavery and its intersections with the histories of technology, agriculture, and capitalism. His first book, The Reinvention of Atlantic Slavery: Technology, Labor, Race, and Capitalism in the Greater Caribbean, was published by Oxford University Press in 2017. "Bogs of Death" in the Journal of American History was awarded a best article prize by the Agricultural History Society in 2014. He coedited of Global Scientific Practice in the Age of Revolutions, 1750-1850. His essays have appeared in numerous edited anthologies such as Slavery’s Capitalism (U Penn Press) and New Frontiers of Slavery (SUNY Press). He has been teaching and writing about the history of pre-Civil War plantations for more than a decade.
